A TRUE CHAMPION- NEW FOREST MARE, "PAHAKE ROYAL PREMIERE"
Not many 25 year old ponies are still having foals, winning at shows or staging a return to pony club, but "Prem" managed to do all this in 2003. We bred her from our superb liver chestnut imported mare "Peveril Paree", who in her day had been Supreme Champion saddle pony at the Ponies of Britain show. Prem's sire is "Forestway Royal Ascot" Imp. U.K. and he is only 2 years older- hence her name, as it really was a premiere event.
In 2003, at surely the hottest stud show that anybody has survived, we were delighted to bring Prem out, with her 17th. foal at foot, (Forestway Vivid) to have her awarded Champion New Forest mare from a very strong field of top quality ponies. To have an international judge was even more prestigious.
Prem's life has alternated between being ridden and having foals. The foals have dominated, as 17 foals in 25 years does not leave a lot of time for riding. She has been to several stallions, mainly "Ramblers Pick Another" Imp. U.K., and all the older progeny are winning under saddle or in harness. She has won under saddle in open company and also at the Vic. stud show in the Mountain and Moorland classes. Twice she was breed champion at the Royal Melbourne Show, the only mare to ever beat the stallions. She also was breed Champion at the Sydney National on several occasions.
Three generations have enjoyed riding Prem. I used to have lessons with Kay Irving on Prem, at Kangaroo Ground adult riders, my daughter Jenny competed at Kangaroo Ground pony club with her and my Grand daughter, Rosie has just joined Benalla pony club. My only wish is that we had repeated the Ascot X Paree mating many more times, instead of only once. Prems' half sister, Forestway Sprig'O'Holly, now 31yo., has had a similar career, mixing riding with countless foals. My young stallion, "Erinskay Peveril", whose dam is Holly, will hopefully continue the line.
