Jarosite Roustabout

We have just sold Jarosite Roustabout to Karen Lear of Stratford Vic.
Rousy is out of a Jarosite Stock Horse mare by Ramblers pick Another.
We are delighted that he has gone to Karen who owned Jarosite Pick Pocket for many years and wanted another ‘Fred’.
Fred (Pick Pocket ) excited people as this little 13.2 hands pony with Karen’s daughter Bianca aboard jumped many huge rounds of open show jumping, at times only the riders helmet was visible over the jump. She is looking forward to many happy hours
riding with her new, New Forest Pony!

EFA PONY DRESSAGE (VIC) NEW RULES ~ BETTER ACCESS
The Vic. Dressage Committee have approved opening Official EFA Dressage Competition to Pony riders from Prelim to Advanced. Ponies to be 14.2h or under, EFA registered and may be ridden by a child or an adult.
If the organizing club has not offered separate official pony dressage classes, riders can enter Official Open classes Prelim. to Advanced.
Riders must specify on their entry form whether it is a Pony, Jnr Pony or YR Pony entry. If the organizing committee do not have separate pony classes then ponies compete ‘open’ with the big horses and your Performance Card will show the points appropriate to your placing among the Open horses. If there are separate pony awards then your placing and points will be that which you gained competing among the ponies not your placing overall.
At this time this is only the situation in Victoria. This will vastly increase the EFA pony dressage riders options for competing. Well done VIC EFA !

Wright family of Bunyip GRPG (APSB) Activity Day

Jordy and Ninebanks Gin and Tonic travelled to Trafalgar on Sunday 27TH August to attend the (APSB) Gippsland Regional Promotional Groups first “Activity Day”. They competed in dressage, games and showjumping against all different types of ponies and their riders. Two other New Forest ponies competed in the same section as Jordy and ‘Tonic’. They all did especially well in the showjumping with Jordy and Ninebanks Gin and Tonic 1ST , Bankswood Morning Star and Ally Barry 2ND and Jarosite Piccola and Tegan Judd 3RD. All three New Forest ponies looked great and performed very well all going home with ribbons. Jordie and ‘Tonic’ were in for an extra thrill when they won the Hi Score award for their section (age group). We are all looking forward to attending this event next year.

Open Pony Dressage Championships 22/4/2006
The APO&B are now holding this day at Werribee NEC as an Annual event and it is growing every year in popularity. It is open to all ponies, registered or not . The tests offered are from the HRCAV tests and some PCAV tests  with classes from levels 5 – 1. They even offer a Kur (dressage to music) in the lunchtime slot. Both adults and children took part with separate sections for ‘tiny tots’ and ‘riders under 16yrs’. Many classes had entries from around 20 competitors.
This year the preceding weeks weather had been atrocious, wild wet and windy but the Saturday while overcast, managed to stay dry thank goodness.  When I entered my first test I was equally delighted with the improved surface of the Werribee Dressage arenas. Sand not to deep (can be difficult for ponies) and perfectly graded. No sign of the swimming pool I have  come to expect on these arenas. Too good to be true.
There were 6 New Forests and 1 partbred New Forest competing .  It was a really pleasant days competition.and a great chance to support pony dressage for adults as well as for children. Quite relaxing after a busy show season.. Ninebanks Tim Tam (Willie) had been turned out for a month after Pakenham Show so I really didn’t have great expectations. Perhaps I should try to emulate that feeling more often as he stunned me by winning 3 of his tests and scoring the highest test score on the day ! Never had a day quite like it in dressage. What a wonderful hard working and dependable fellow he is! A tribute to the breed !  It would be great to see more New Forests at this competition next year.

S.V. Chandler Memorial Trophy

This trophy, a most impressive large silver cup, is awarded to the most successful APSB gelding with the highest aggregate score from the APSB Action Pony Day and the APSB Vic. Stud Show. This years winner of this prestigious award was the New Forest pony ‘Jarosite Pickason’ owned and ridden by Gabrielle George, a NFPO&B member. This win is all the more impressive as ‘Pickason’ (Claude) has now won this trophy 3 times. We salute you ‘Claude’ and ‘Gabbi’ a truly remarkable performance and a pony we are proud to cite as ‘New Forest’. Jarosite Pickason was bred by Wendy James of Barwon Downs, a dedicated New Forest breeder.

  Sires Rating Competition
Winner of this years ‘Sires Rating Competition’ for New Forest ponies was ‘Ramblers Pickanother’ the New Forest stallion imported from England by the James family of Barwon Downs. He was a prolific sire of New Forests pure and partbred as well as giving the James family and in particular Alison James a memorable time in the saddle . Another very special New Forest pony.

APSB   12th  FOAL  SHOW  SPECTACULAR

Bain Park Marionette
held at Werribee  NEC   Sunday  28th May 2006
Five New Forest foals and one partbred New Forest were presented at this years ‘Foal Show’ on a cool and mainly overcast but fine day. Werribee is such a busy venue these days we were in the second indoor arena which worked well on the day although the seating is a bit primitive, back to the slatted bench seats.
A feast of lovely foals kept our attention on the 2 rings judged by Myra Chaundy and David Lamb. New Forest ponies went on after the Shetlands in Ring 2 to be judged by David lamb who liked a good moving pony. New Forest colt or gelding foal was won by the very pretty Kapeta Divinity (Kapeta Faro x Darsirla Purity) shown by Horne and Sherwood.
Jan McBains ‘Forestway Replica’ and ‘Forestway New Orleans in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Sandra Barry presented two foals in the filly class. Bain Park Marionette (Yarborough Willoughby x Erinskay Marielle) a lovely bright bay with good bone and a striking blaze who moved out well for the judge was the winner over the bigger Bain Park Sweet Caroline.
Bain Park Marionette went on to take the Grand Champion M&M foal from the winner of the Connemara colt or gelding class.  An inscribed wool rug and garland went to Bain Park Marionette who said she’d just as soon not bother with the ‘garland’ !
Bain Park Marionette and Bain Park Sweet Caroline also won the Pair of New Forest Foals by one breeder.
Unfortunately the Highland ponies were busy at another event this year, the annual Highland Day held at Akoonah Park Berwick.

Beginners & Novices Harness Seminar

Sunday 18th June
This was our first major event to promote the New Forest breed in our year of holding the title of APSB Feature Breed. Because we have many New Forest ponies in Australia involved in carriage driving for both competition and pleasure, the seminar gave us an excellent opportunity to talk up the attributes of our ponies (strength, agility and attentive and willing nature ) that cause them to be so well suited to this activity.
Our beautiful new NFPO&B display board and banner were proudly on display along with other New Forest advertising materials including the new APSB New Forest Breed brochures.
On a crisp cold (but thankfully dry ) winters morning, 55 enthusiasts from all over Victoria (and one from NSW) gathered at the brand new indoor arena at Rob and Gail Clays agistment property in Cranbourne South to learn all about how to get started in ‘harness’.
After the participants fueled up on morning tea they were ready to concentrate and to learn. Many had expressed disappointment that they had not been able to find a way to learn ‘the basics’ anywhere before this so were thrilled to be able to attend our ‘day’.
Our participants could not have had more knowledgeable or enthusiastic presenters than Marge and Geoff Walters who brought with them everything from bits to photographs and clothing to help convey their information. They guided their attentive students through types of harness, balancing a 2 wheeler, safety measures, use of the voice and whip, types of pony that would be suitable and safe and many other aspects. Questions were encouraged and Marge and Geoff continued to give guidance to individuals through the lunchtime and again at the end of the day. It is great to see teachers who love their craft and just love encouraging others.
The ‘piece de resistance’ was the session when the beautiful New Forest stallion ‘Erinskay Peveril’ arrived as the perfect gentleman to demonstrate the ‘harnessing up’ process. He stood so patiently while the 55 onlookers, crowding around him to get a better view, were guided through the intricacies of the ‘harness’.
We broke for lunch around 1.00pm by which time the arena was feeling chilly so it was pleasant to emerge outside just as the sun came out . A BBQ lunch was all ready, a great effort from the team of NFPO&B’s that supported us on the day and our seminar participants seemed to really enjoy themselves with much talk over lunch.
In the afternoon session our NFPO&B President, Alison Charlton, a member of the Australian Carriage Driving Association took us through the elements of competition driving with a CD for us to view showing teams engaged in the various aspects. This really conveyed the excitement of it all !
As part of the presentation of competition driving we crossed back to Marge Walter who discussed and exhibited clothing ideas for the show ring.
All in all it was a great day . My thanks to the New Forest Pony Owners & Breeders who made this possible and pitched in everywhere on the day. Well done all.

AYLESTONE PARK STUD

After a busy show time we finally have time to sit back and reflect on what a great year my ponies have had. We are now preparing the youngstock over the winter for their future with 2 ponies away being broken in and hopefully they will be out and about under saddle next season. During the year we purchased a huge Clydesdale with the idea of putting him in harness but he has turned out to be such a great grandpa in the paddock to all my foals he now foal sits with them all. Its quite a laugh to see them feeding out of the same feed bins and the foals snuggle up beside him for shelter under his big belly. I am sponsoring New Forest Classes this year at the Mansfield Agi show, providing the ribbons and a Supreme trophy for the led classes. Please everyone support these classes so we can ensure them for the future. Penny Prosser.

GOULBURN VALLEY RIDDEN NATIVE PONY CHAMPIONSHIP

Ninebanks Tim Tam working out for NF Native Pony Qualifier for2007 at Tatura Park Sun. 12th March 06

The Welsh Soc. held the first ‘Ridden Native Pony Championship’ at the Tatura Park Indoor arena on the evening of Sat 11th March. What a lovely sight One representative each of 11different breeds were presented to the watching audience one at a time with an introduction from the well spoken PA as to their sire and dam and what they had been doing lately in competition. Participants then left the arena to return individually to do a set workout for the first of the 2 English judges. As you completed the ridden workout you then moved on to the second judge where your strapper ( hopefully you had one) removed the saddle for you to present to the judge for the in hand part of the assessment. When all ponies had been assessed we all retuned to the arena for the final announcement. There were 8 places awarded with prize money to go to all 8 ranging from $25 to $250.

It was a wonderful sight to see top examples of 11 breeds and the audience were duly appreciative. Placings were read out in ascending order so the anticipation grew. Finally 1st place was read out and a garland placed around the neck of the deserving Welsh B, Oak Park Fontana.

As a competitor I felt honoured to be among those invited in this inaugural year. Next year entry to the competition will be by winning at a qualifying competition so look out for these. It is hoped that there will be 4or 5 of these qualifiers around the state. I believe there may be one held at the Yarra Glen M&M Show next January.

Our ponies need this type of prestigious event to lift our profile and also to give us something to work toward in our showing.

THE PERFECT FOALING

10am.....................................................................10.03am............................................................10.05am

10.07am.....................................................................10.10am............................................................10.15am
A copy book foaling- November 25th 2005 These photos show how quickly an easy foaling should be- no time for a cup of coffee! The mare is a 4yo New Forest pony, Forestway Manhattan. It is her second foal. She was ridden up to the last two months before foaling, so she was fairly fit and not too fat, despite the abundant spring. The timing from when the waterbag first showed to when the foal was up and about was barely 15 minutes. This also demonstrates how quickly a vet is needed if things don’t go quite right. With the front feet and muzzle in the correct position as seen in the first photo there is no need to intervene, except to perhaps break the bag to make sure that the foal can breathe as quickly as possible.

BANKSWOOD MORNINGSTAR (TADDY TO HIS FRIENDS)
Tadpole was purchased for Ally as a very green young pony when Ally was a very green young rider The combination was a huge success; they both developed their skills, with Ally winning events to numerous to list here. Sadly Ally has outgrown Taddy, and he has been loaned to a new family. This is an email from Karen Lake: - We have lent Taddy to a family from Maffra. Their mum is a friend, and a vet, so he is in wonderful hands. We took him with us to Sale Ag show, and dropped him off on the way home. On the first afternoon, poor Taddy bravely put up with four kids jumping him and showing him off to each other, and Jake (his new rider) jumped him at 95cm, which is 15cm higher than Jake had jumped with his previous pony. We wouldn't let him go any higher on the day as Taddy was unfit; Taddy was jumping 115cm with Ally a few weeks before this. At one point all 4 kids vaulted over his rump onto his back, and he walked around like a little docile lamb with all 4 kids on his back!! Jake took him to Pony Club yesterday and played polocrosse on him, and apparently Taddy taught all the other ponies how to trot across red carpet without batting an eyelid. Jake and Taddy are a perfect match.
